Generally, it's best to check your roof at least twice a year: once before winter and once after winter. It's also a good practice to immediately assess your roof after powerful storms or heavy snowfall. 

Regular inspections will help catch any problems early on and help you avoid costly repairs.

Another key step to prepare your roof is to remove debris, such as leaves and twigs, which can clog gutters and downspouts. Obstructions cause water to pool and cause potential damage.

To remove debris, use a high-pressure hose to spray off any buildup that may have formed on your roof. You may also need to use a ladder to get up there and manually remove any debris.

Be careful when clearing off your roof, as you don't want to cause damage to the shingles by accident. It may be best to leave this job to a professional if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself.

While this may not be a common occurrence in our neck of the woods, immediately removing snow from your roof during the winter helps prevent roof damage. If not taken care of, snow can form blocks of ice, known as an ice dam, and damage the roof structure, insulation, and ceilings.

You can gently use a shovel or a roof rake to remove the snow from your roof. Avoid using sharp objects such as ice picks, as this can damage the roof's shingles. Additionally, be careful not to overstress your roof, as this can result in severe damage.
